Dear Alan,
Thank you for your very useful website and the information it contains. I am nearing retirement and have been looking for a flexible business for supplementary income and arbitrage looks to offer substantially more than that if taken seriously.
Alan, are there any substantial difficulties that you are aware of in running such a business from Australia? I see that you use the zero-risk-arbitrage service. Now TraderZone? I have had a look at their website and it seems that their services and products are quite comprehensive and professional but websites aren’t always the best indication. Do you find that they suit you well, or do you have any problems with them? Also, the arbs you find yourself are a major part of your business. How do you find these?
Thank you again for your work on the site and for considering my questions.
Yours Sincerely
Brian Lennon

Dear Brian,
Thanks very much for writing.
From what I gather from traders based in Australia & New Zealand, it seems that it may actually be more advantageous to trade from there than from the UK, mainly due to the timezone difference. I know of no restrictions or problems which relate specifically to being located in the southern hemisphere except that Australian dollar accounts are not offered as widely by bookmakers as those denominated in US dollars, Euros or British Pounds. This would mean that to get best coverage you may need to choose one of those main currencies as your base and convert all of your trading capital into this before getting started.
This will require a greater degree of organisation & administration before you get to the stage of making regular profits and it will require you to decide on a strategy for bringing your profits back home – probably on a 6 or 12 monthly basis to avoid too many exchanges.
Of course, you can avoid this by using Australian dollars & simply ignoring those bookmakers which don’t offer accounts in your currency. I don’t know how much this will restrict your range of bookmakers – you’d need to research this.
I am impressed with the TraderZone & the team behind it. They have been around for a long time, know what they’re doing & seem committed to providing constant upgrades & excellent support.
The trades I find myself are generally a combination of bonus-scalping trades, cross-market trades & trades which appear in occasional markets. It’s taken me years to develop a technique to turn this process into something worthwhile; for a trader starting out today I would recommend using an alert service for ‘bread and butter’ & personal research as a side-project which will yield better results over time as your experience grows.
All the best.
Sincerely,
Alan Seymour

Dear Alan,
Thank you for your prompt reply. What currency would you recommend I use? The AUD is quite strong at the moment – and may get stronger given the strength of our economy. Then again, if China tanks, so will we. And is Neteller the best site to organise finances through? I have a Paypal account but have only used that to pay for some items on eBay.
I have tried downloading your material on Scribd, including the one linked to the bonus-scalping but for some reason it doesn’t leave me with anything I can open. Mostly it just hangs when I try to download, and if anything does appear on my computer, it has errors and won’t open. It may be something at my machine but there is nothing obvious I can see.
Yours sincerely
Brian

Dear Brian,
Thanks very much for writing.
I can’t advise the currency based on what may happen to its rate in the future as you guess is at least as good as mine. However, on the basis of convenience for sports arbitrage trading, the USD is the most widely accepted currency followed by EUR & GBP.
You can access my sports arbitrage articles on Scribd directly by clicking here; if you still have problems then you may need to contact the support people at Scribd for assistance as the files all work normally for me – they’re just pdf files.
All the best.
Sincerely,
Alan Seymour
